If you are teaching from a place of love and compassion you are making a difference.”  Janea Dahl – Drama Educator

Boost! has been nurturing theatrical talent in the Oxford area since 2007. We focus on drama education rather than expecting every child to want to dance and sing. We are passionate about what participation in drama activities can do for young people.

We partner with schools to deliver appropriate lesson plans sensitive to the individual requirements of the children involved so that children of all ages and abilities can be engaged. We aim to deliver happy, inspired children back to relaxed parents who have gained an extra hour in their day!

Our LAMDA classes are usually individually taught lessons open to anyone aged 7 – 97!

For those who love musical theatre, there is often the opportunity to take part in one of our musical productions.

Boost! are delighted to announce a new addition to our team!

Piers Heyworth has been Headmaster at The Manor Preparatory School in Abingdon for 11 years. He is retiring from this role at Christmas but is not a man to rest on his laurels!  Piers has a passion for theatre and drama and is a very talented public speaker.

After studying English Literature at Christ Church, Oxford, he taught English and Drama at Latymer Upper School (a school with a dynamic dramatic tradition, producing such stars as  Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman and Mel Smith). Piers wrote and directed countless musical comedies there; he has continued writing and directing throughout his career, both as teacher and Headmaster.

As Head of English at James Allen’s Girls’ School in Dulwich, he set up the school’s annual Poetry Festival, where Piers   developed a great interest in helping children develop their ability to speak aloud. He also prepared pupils for all their public speaking exams.

At The Manor he has continued teaching Drama and, encouraged by LAMDA training, has developed an even greater interest in public speaking, becoming the voice coach of his pupils as they entered the Winston Churchill Public Speaking Competition at Blenheim Palace (winning it three times );  his pupils also won the prestigious Demosthenes Speaking Competition at Bradfield College, where  his pupils were required to entertain 150 members of the audience ‘in the manner of an after-dinner speaker’, no mean feat for 11-year-olds!

We are immensely proud that Piers has chosen to join us, offering coaching for both children and adults for LAMDA exams in Speaking Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance and Speaking in Public as well as Acting. He will also be available to coach students for other public speaking challenges such as presentations in the work place and, of course, public speaking competitions.
